Lazy to cook lunch, I ordered 2 boxes of fried bum, a box of Chinese ravioli, and a soup. And how much these nice fresh hand-made food takes ? 23.8rmb (roughly 3 dollar) including delivery fee and no tips.

As a customer, of course I am glad to get all of this with such a low price. But also, I kind of curious how can the price be so low, especially how much can the delivery guy get.

According to the receipt I got, the delivery service cost 5 rmb (less than 1 dollar). And I asked the delivery guy, he got roughly 4 to 5 rmb (less than 1 dollar) for each delivery. Let's assume he could finish 3 delivery per hour, in 8 hour working time, he could get 120rmb (17 dollar) per day . And that would be 2640 rmb(374 dollar) per month if he work five days a week. However 2640 rmb could not support his minimun cost of life in Shanghai. So most of the delivery guy work overtime everyday and rarely have weekends so that they could earn roughly 5000 to 6000 rmb(710 to 857 dollar) per month. Some people may ask why he didn't get better job. However, 90% of the people in China don't have a university degree. (data from national statistic office people with a university degree/total population=0.086=8.6%) They don't have a chance to work in the office. They may only pick a job among shop assistant, factory worker, or delivery.

But if we look at the social media in China, you would have a illusion that every people have a university degree and every one has a high salary. Like some of my friends just post their photo of having a yoga class, which charges 100-200 rmb(roughly 14 to 28 dollar) per hour. Of course I am not writing to blame on my friends or those people enjoy their fancy life. After all, I am also the person who spent 100 rmb on yoga class.

I just feel little bit lost by finding that people are living such a different life in the same city and they don't even know or not know much about each other. This remind me of the Apartheid in South Africa. People are unintentionally separated into different society class and not knowing how people's life is like in different class.
